Forward-thinking municipalities across the country are partnering with EarthLink Municipal Networks (EMN) to create innovative wireless network solutions for their residents, businesses, visitors, and city employees. EarthLink Municipal Networks' Wi-Fi network is secure and stable, leveraging proven EMN advanced network architecture along with industry-leading technological solutions from world-class partners.
EMN begins by putting Wi-Fi nodes on city light poles tied together into a mesh network that offers citywide wireless broadband access—at speeds up to 1Mbps both upstream and downstream.
Our Wi-Fi nodes beam wireless signals between light poles, offering users seamless connectivity. Certain poles transmit Internet signals back to access towers that haul the Internet traffic back (a process called backhaul) to EarthLink's landline network and then the public Internet.
EMN Wi-Fi nodes and access towers also provide fixed wireless broadband connectivity to government offices and businesses as a cost-effective alternative to T1 access.
